Development Spotlight : Lloyd Center

The owners of the Lloyd Center released their long-term plan for the mall site, and it’s an exciting vision. They plan to tear down much of the mall, replacing it mainly with housing and greenspace. The greenspace will be designed by the same folks who designed the amazing High Line park in New York City.

They will open the property up visually by breaking the parcel into multiple connected pieces, restoring street and pedestrian thoroughfares throughout the property. The 29.3 acre site could see upwards of 5,000 residences built over the next decade, with construction starting in a few years.

The owners plan to include an ice rink in the redevelopment plans, preserving this iconic piece of Portland history.

A baseball stadium is not out of the picture, but mall owners are moving ahead with plans to build housing in the meantime, since housing is a part of that idea, too.

The mall will remain open during the planning phase and into the construction phase, so please keep supporting the awesome businesses that have moved in. Early next year, local artist Mike Bennett will transform the upper level into an interactive art exhibit called Painted Pines. This whimsical experience will be another reason to keep heading to the mall.
