Steel Bridge Skatepark finally on its way
The City of Portland’s Parks and Recreation Department announced that they are fully-funding a skatepark in Old Town.
The skatepark will sit on a 35,000 square foot piece of land at the base of the Steel Bridge in NW Portland, and the $15 million construction costs will be covered by System Development Charges, which are fees paid by developers and homebuilders when pulling permits for new development.
Advocates have fought for the park for over 20 years, and there’s been a design in place for over 10 years, so the project seems to be ready-to-go. It even includes a glass roof making it a year-round option for skaters.
The park is exciting news for skaters as well as Old Town itself, a neighborhood that’s weathered difficult conditions lately but is packed with great destinations.
