Did you sell a home and pay a commission? You may be entitled to compensation. Really!
You’ve likely heard about the lawsuit being settled involving the National Association of Realtors. This class action lawsuit resulted in some practice changes that are detailed here.
It also means there’s $980 million that will be shared among home sellers who are a part of the lawsuit, and like any class action lawsuit, you have to opt in to get paid.
Here’s a website that outlines the details. In a nutshell, if you sold a home and paid a commission in Oregon or Washington between October 31, 2019 through August 17, 2024, you should be included in the lawsuit. For all applicable dates, click here.
If you are part of the affected group, you can opt out of the lawsuit by October 28, or you can be a part of the class action and then, you must submit a claim form by May 9, 2025. You can submit a claim here.
Submitting a claim has no impact on your realtor or their brokerage, so there’s really no reason to opt out, unless you don’t like free money.
