The James Beard Public Market could finally come to downtown Portland

Plans have been floated for many years to bring a public market to Portland. It would be called the James Beard Public Market, and would be similar to Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

We may be a lot closer to this dream becoming reality, as the project’s backers announced they are leasing some retail space and buying an adjacent building in the heart of downtown Portland. They propose to put the market at SW 6th and Alder, taking up 38,000 square feet. They envision 40 individual spaces, including:

  • restaurant

  • bakery

  • cheese store

  • wine shop

  • teaching kitchen

  • cookbook store

  • butcher

  • fish market

  • event space

  • fresh fruits and veggies

We can’t wait to see this take shape!
