Historic, Long-vacant Home Will Move a Few Blocks Away

In November 2022, a beautiful 1910 home in the Irvington neighborhood burned in a dangerous fire. The homeowners had been working on a complete remodel for many months, and at that point the house was stripped down to the studs and they were beginning to put it back together. But one evening, the house caught fire, completely destroying the home and significantly damaging the homes on each side. The fire generated so much heat into the street that firefighters had to go through the yard behind the home and fight the fire from behind.

After watching their dream home disappear, the homeowners got creative and went to work on a new plan. They will be moving a historic home on NE 9th and Weidler to their now-vacant lot on NE 9th, just north of Tillamook. The Weidler home has been vacant for many years, but the main floor still boasts the original charm that one would expect in the 100-year-old home.

Moving the home just a few blocks north has turned into quite the ordeal, involving pruning trees, removing a few overgrown nuisance trees, and dealing with the power company to temporarily remove power lines. But seeing this beautiful old home get a new life on a quiet street will be worth the effort.
