Darcelle XV Plaza coming to downtown Portland
O’Bryant Square is a half-acre plaza in downtown Portland, at the corner of Harvey Milk and SW Park Avenue. It’s been closed and fenced off for almost six years, since an underground parking garage started to have structural issues that made it unsafe. The city has been working on a plan for what to do with the site, and announced last year that it would be rebuilt as a public plaza honoring Darcelle XV, the legendary drag queen who passed away last year.
Recently the preliminary designs for Darcelle XV Plaza were released. The space will function as a public plaza with a small off-leash dog park, a stage, and a walk of fame honoring local LGBTQIA+ heroes. There will be large pink triangular shades overhead, along with a big outdoor chandelier.
The city hopes to have the new plaza open late this year.
